Most moves don't happen on a clean line. The closing date floats. The new house isn't finished. The lease ends before the new one starts. The cross-country job starts in three weeks but the family stays behind for the school year.
When that gap shows up, you have two options. You can pack everything yourself, rent a truck, drive it to a self-storage unit, lift it up, lock it, drive back to do the same thing in reverse a few months later. Or you can hire one company to pack, store, and redeliver — and only do it once.

Our crews come to your house, pack what you want packed, load everything into climate-controlled 8×10 containers, store them in our Class A San Jose warehouse, and deliver them wherever you want — anywhere in the country — on your schedule. The Term You'll Hear
Storage-in-Transit (SIT)is a federal regulatory term defined by the FMCSA. It refers to temporary storage — typically 90 days or less — that's part of the continuous service of an interstate (state-to-state) move. It's the industry term for the gap between when your stuff leaves the old house and when it arrives at the new one.
SIT is built into the way Bekins Van Lines (and every legitimate van line agent) handles cross-country moves. Your shipment can pause at our San Jose warehouse for up to 90 days under the same Bekins coverage that protects it during transit. After 90 days, SIT converts to permanent storage, which is governed by warehouse storage rules instead of interstate-transit rules.
Why this matters: if you're doing a cross-country move and the new house has any chance of slipping, building SIT into the booking up front protects your shipment under continuous coverage instead of forcing you to scramble for a self-storage unit at the last minute.
For local and California-only intrastate moves, the term is just "storage" — same warehouse, same containers, same flexibility, different regulatory category.
The Process
We come to your home (or do a video survey), inventory what you're storing, and give you a written estimate. No surprises — you know what storage will cost before we touch a thing.
Our crews pack the items (or you can pack them) and load them into 8×10 climate-controlled wooden containers. The container is sealed; your items stay in it the entire time. No re-handling.
Containers go into our 20,000 sq ft Class A facility at 186 Barnard Avenue, San Jose. Climate-controlled, 24/7 monitored. Billed month to month. Stay as long as you need.
Tell us where and when. Anywhere in the country, any date that works for you. Our crews load the containers onto our trucks (or coordinate Bekins long-haul for out-of-state).
Same thoroughness as every SVM move. We unload, place furniture where it belongs, set up beds, place electronics, and unpack if you want. The level of service doesn't drop because storage was involved.
When People Use This
You sold the current house but the new one isn't ready, or you haven't found it yet. Our crews pack you out on the closing date, store everything climate-controlled, and deliver when you're ready — even if that's three months from now.
