Valuation Coverage for High-Value Items
Movers provide valuation coverage, which is not insurance. Valuation sets what the mover owes if an item is lost or damaged. You choose the coverage level before anything is loaded.
Basic Coverage
$0.60 per pound, per article
Included at no additional charge. Coverage is based on weight, so a 20-pound item is covered for $12.00 regardless of its value.
Full Value Protection
Replacement Value up to the Amount You Declare
The mover repairs the item, replaces it, or pays its replacement value. On an interstate move it is the carrier's default, and switching to basic coverage requires your written waiver.
Declare valuable items in writing before move day. On an interstate move, an article worth more than $100 per pound requires a written declaration, or the carrier's liability for it can be limited to $100 per pound. On a California move, list the item on the inventory with its value.

Custom Wooden Crating
Some items cannot be moved in a box, such as a marble top, a large mirror, a framed canvas, or a sculpture with protruding parts. For these items, we build a wooden crate to fit the piece.

How do you move a grand piano?
A grand piano is moved on its side on a padded piano board, wrapped in quilted pads and secured with locking straps. The stairs, turns, and narrowest doorway at each location determine how many movers the job needs, so we ask about them before we quote.
Do you take pool tables apart before moving them?
Yes. Moving a slate table in one piece risks cracking the slate and warping the frame. We take the table apart, wrap and crate each slate section, and reassemble and re-level it at your new home. If you plan to have the table recovered with new cloth, let us know when you book.
How much does it cost to move a piano or other specialty item?
We quote each specialty item individually, because the item, its weight, the stairs, and the distance from the door to the truck all affect the job. Send the details listed on this page and we will provide a free written quote with no obligation.
Can you move just one item?
Yes. We move single items such as a piano, a safe, or one oversized piece. Your written quote states any minimum before you book.
Are specialty items insured during the move?
Movers provide valuation, and valuation is not insurance. Basic coverage, 60 cents per pound per article, is included at no additional charge and is based on weight. Full Value Protection covers the repair or replacement of a lost or damaged item, or payment of its replacement value, up to the value you declare. On an interstate move, Full Value Protection is the carrier's default, and switching to basic coverage requires your written waiver. Declare anything valuable in writing before the move.
Can you move a safe up or down stairs?
Yes. We move safes on stair-climbing dollies with straps, and we lay floor protection along the path first. Send the make and model or the dimensions, the weight if known, and the number of steps at each location, and we will plan the crew and equipment.
Do you remove hot tubs?
Yes. Hot tub removal includes disconnecting the electrical and the plumbing. If you are moving the tub to a new home, include access details for both locations with your quote request.
Can you store a specialty item until the new home is ready?
Yes. We can store pianos, antiques, and crated pieces in our climate-controlled San Jose warehouse, which has 24/7 security monitoring. We handle the pickup, storage, and delivery.
